NYC Snow Day – Public Schools Closed Monday; Remote Learning Scheduled

New York City — New York City Public Schools will close all school buildings on Monday, Jan. 26, because of severe weather, but instruction will continue remotely for most students, the district said.

The Department of Education said students in kindergarten and above are expected to log on from home and participate in their scheduled classes while buildings are closed.

There is one major exception: because Monday is a professional development day, students who attend high schools and schools serving only grades 6–12 are not scheduled to attend school that day. Remote instruction will not be held for those students.

All other students, including students in grades 6–8 who attend K–8 schools or middle schools, are expected to participate in remote learning. Children enrolled in LYFE programs, 3K, or Pre-K programs located in elementary schools or Pre-K centers should follow the remote learning experiences outlined by their program.

For families preparing at home, the district recommends confirming your child’s schedule and login details in advance, charging devices overnight, and checking for any teacher messages about assignments or live video times. If your household needs help navigating digital platforms, the DOE directs families to its digital learning resources page.

The district said families with questions should contact their principal. The next update is expected through school communications and the DOE’s online channels as weather conditions develop.
